SP0-T
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
SP0-T
A colourful, minimalist base-defence roguelite.
PLANET SP0-T is under siege. The "0" is silent — it's a filing error that stuck after three administrations. The science budget was spent on snacks. And you're the only one left to hold the line.
What It Is
SP0-T is an active-idle base defence game with a twist: most of the time you're the commander — building turrets, mining ore, fulfilling cargo contracts, and researching upgrades — but when things get spicy, you can jump into any fighter ship and take the fight directly to the enemy.
Think of it as "tower defence meets twin-stick combat", but stripped back to clean lines, bold colours, and a loop that lets you play how you want: hands-on micromanagement or hands-off economic strategy.
The Core Loop
- Mine asteroids for ore with autonomous mining ships
- Build cargo ships and fulfil delivery contracts to earn credits
- Upgrade your defences — more turrets, stronger shields, wider scan range, bigger fleet
- Research slow but powerful unlocks: fighter squadrons, cloaking, heavy cannons, point-defence grids, minefields, emergency shield bursts
- Survive 60 waves of escalating enemies and a boss every 20 waves
- Win the run, earn a Medal, and unlock the next THREAT tier
The Fighter
Your turrets do the heavy lifting, but sometimes you need to get your hands dirty.
- Press F to grab the nearest fighter, click one in the world, or hit the FLY button from your fleet panel
- W/S to throttle, mouse to aim
- Left-click for a rapid minigun (watch the heat — it overheats!)
- Right-click for heavy rockets
- Esc to release control and return to command view
The camera zooms in tight while you're flying, then pulls back when you return to the planet.
THREAT Tiers
Beat the game to climb the ladder. Your highest beaten tier persists across sessions.
| Tier | Name | Multiplier |
|---|---|---|
| I | Skirmish | ×0.75 |
| II | Assault | ×1.0 |
| III | Siege | ×1.5 |
| IV | Annihilation | ×2.0 |
Enemy Types
Eight distinct threats, each with its own colour and behaviour:
- Scout — fast, light, the bread-and-butter threat
- Tank — slow, chunky, soaks up turret fire
- Sniper — hangs back and fires from long range
- Swarmer — fragile but fast, comes in clusters
- Bomber — orbits, then dives at the planet and detonates
- Raider — teleports inside your scan ring for a surprise barrage
- Boss — massive, fires a devastating laser, spawns drone swarms past wave 40
- Drone — mini combatants spawned by the boss
Every enemy type explodes in its own colour.
Features
- First-run tutorial — pulsing rings guide you through the UI. Skip anytime.
- Fleet & Cargo dropdowns — hover the top-bar stats to see your ships and active contracts at a glance
- ALERTS feed — a Sims-style log of meaningful events (ship destroyed, cargo lost, boss incoming, solar flare)
- Solar flares (from wave 22) — disable shield regen and halve turret damage for a few seconds
- Emergency Shields research — burst-recharge and shockwave when you take a big hit
- Scrap & refund — sell ships back for ore (and Medals for high-tier ships)
- Construction & Research queues — build multiple things at once, research runs independently
- Minimal audio by design — sparse SFX on meaningful moments only. No "pew pew" chaos. Looping ambient music underneath.

Roadmap
This is v0.3.1 — the core loop is solid, the boss fights back, and four difficulty tiers are in. Here's what's coming next:
- Endless Mode — survive past wave 60 with ever-escalating threats for high-score chasing.
- More Enemy Types — new behaviours and dangers to keep the late game fresh.
- Story Mode — a structured campaign that explores the weird little lore of PLANET SP0-T and why it's actually worth defending.
Steam is the eventual plan. For now, SP0-T is a complete, winnable, replayable roguelite. Enjoy!
